Frieda Valenzuela, professional TV and film makeup artist from New Mexico has 20+ years in the industry.
Starting out in commercials for many national companies then moving onto several shows for Nickelodeon in Orlando, Florida, Frieda returned to her home state of New Mexico in 2005.
Since moving to Albuquerque, NM Frieda has gained a reputation for being a consummate professional in the artistry of makeup and design for television and film.
Working on movies such as “The Flock” , “Wild Hogs”, “Terminator: Salvation”, and “Fright Night” has filled out a resume that continues to grow.
On “The Killer Inside Me”, a period piece set in a west Texas town in the 50’s, Miss Valenzuela brought her capacity for exhaustive and authentic research to represent that era in a small town look.
Miss Valenzuela is best known for her stellar work on the Emmy winning TV series “Breaking Bad”. Beginning with the pilot and through 4 seasons, she designed the original makeup for “Walter White” and “Jesse Pinkman”. She also developed the looks for each actor in the series.
Collaborating with the esteemed costume designer Kathleen DeToro who set the color palette for the characters in “Breaking Bad” , Frieda also developed makeup color palettes for the two wives in the series.
She gained a complete understanding of the effects, not only physical but also psychological, of meth addicition.
With work on several TV shows, Frieda moved onto the TNT series “Dallas” which was a marked departure from the gritty realism of “Breaking Bad”.
On “Dallas” Frieda embraced the total glamour and beauty of the series again designing very specific looks for each character. She also discovered the very accurate process of developing character through beauty makeup.
Frieda continues to study and learn from her craft, keeping up to date on new techniques and products so that her works remains fresh.
As she has stated “The day I think I know everything about makeup artistry and the film industry is the day I will put down my brushes. Everyday is an opportunity to learn something new and also to teach to those who would be future makeup artists. I feel immensely privileged to get paid to do what I love.”
