Television makeup artist and designer of the original makeup look for
the Emmy winning TV series “Breaking Bad” Frieda Valenzuela did
exhaustive research to realistically portray the range of real and gritty
characters for the show.
From the concept of the bland and vanilla “Walter White” to the
nuances of imperfection and the tattoos of “Jesse Pinkman”, Frieda set
the look for the show beginning with the pilot episode.
Working in tandem with Kathleen De Toro, talented costume designer
who established the color palette in wardrobe for each character,
Frieda developed the looks and color palettes for the two wives in the
series.
“Dallas” presented another challenge for professional makeup artist
Frieda Valenzuela.
With a large cast and an emphasis on glamour and beauty for High
Definition photography the design for each character was tailored
specifically to their character, character development through each
season and makeup effects for the occasional bar brawl, explosions
and fire at Southfork ranch.
With CBS “Vegas”, this period covered the late 50’s to the early 60’s.
The look for this series encompassed stewardesses, showgirls, high
rollers and out of town visitors to the Vegas casinos.
Every TV series calls for a different approach not just by script but also
what look the specific network embraces.
